Acetaminophen (the active ingredient in Tylenol) relieves mild to moderate pain and reduces fever. It is the first choice for most everyday pain because it is gentler on the stomach than anti-inflammatories and interacts with fewer medicines.

Adults and children 12 and over: one or two tablets every four to six hours, to a maximum of eight tablets in 24 hours.
